AIR COOLING SYSTEM

♦️ AIR COOLING Figure shows a typical air cooling system used in I.C. engines. In air cooling system, air is circulated around the cylinder block and cylinder head. Radiating fins are provided on the outer surface of cylinder barrel and cylinder head. This fins increases the heat radiating surface. As more air comes in contact with the cylinder, the heat is removed efficiently. The use of aluminium, copper and steel alloys improves heat transfer. The high velocity of air required for cooling is obtained by the forward motion of the engine itself. In stationary engines, air circulating fan is provided to circulate the air. The air cooling system is employed for scooters, motor cycles and air crafts.

WATER / LIQUID COOLING SYSTEM

WATER / LIQUID COOLING SYSTEM  In water cooling system, water is continuously circulated through passage (water jackets) around the cylinder. The heat removal from the cylinder is effected by transfer of heat to circulating water. This system is more effective than air cooling and is used for the engines having large capacity. It is used in light and heavy vehicles such as bus, lorry, trucks etc...the inlet water should be about 85-90°C and outlet water is about 95°C -105°C. Types of water cooling system According to the method of circulation of water, this system is classified as a. Thermosyphon system (or) Gravity circulation system. b.
