WHEEL CYLINDER -18

Image
CONSTRUCTION Above is a picture of a wheel cylinder. It will have two spring loaded aluminum pistons and rubber cups. Rubber cups are provided to prevent leakage of hydraulic fluid entering the wheel cylinder. In addition, the spring provided between the pistons are attached to the piston. The slots for connecting the ends of the brake shoe to the piston are provided on the sides of the piston. And  Dust covers are provided on both sides of wheel cylinder to prevent dust and dirt from entering. The wheel cylinder also has a bleeder screw for brake bleeding. WORKING When the driver applies the brakes, the compressed fluid from the master cylinder enters the cylinder through the inlet hole. Then the pistons move along with the rubber cups due to the pressure. This way the brake shoes pull away from the retractor springs and make the brakes possible. When the driver shifts his foot from the brake pedal, the pressure in the line decreases and the pistons move inward due to the

TANDEM MASTER CYLINDER-17

The reliability of a tandem master cylinder is higher than that of a standard master cylinder. The fluid is pumped through two outlets for two pairs of wheels. Thus a brake on both wheels works efficiently without losing the entire brake if the brakes are lost on any one wheel.   Above is a picture of a tandem master cylinder. Normally when the pedal is pressed (when there are no faults) the brake fluid will reach the same pressure on all four wheels. But if the front wheels fail, the second piston moves freely forward and hits the stopper. But after this the fluid between the first and second pistons is compressed and pumped to operate the rear brakes. Similarly, if the rear wheels fail, the first piston moves freely and hits the second piston. This is followed by a second when the two pistons move forward together The fluid in the front of the piston is compressed and the brakes on the front wheels are applied. In some vehicles the connection in the large compression chamber
