SINGLE PLATE CLUTCH

SINGLE PLATE FRICTION CLUTCH

Clutch is a mechanism, which is used to connect and disconnect the transmission from engine. It placed in between engine and gear box.

MAIN PARTS:

1. Fly wheel
2. Return spring
3. Friction pad
4. Pressure plate
5. Clutch plate
6. Clutch fork
7. Pilot bearing
8. Clutch shaft

CONSTRUCTION

The above figure shows the simple diagram of a single plate clutch. The clutch plate is placed in between the flywheel and pressure plate. Both sides of clutch plate surfaces are covered with friction pad. It reduces the wear and tear of clutch plate. A pressure plate is placed just behind the clutch plate and it press the clutch plate in the direction of fly wheel with the help of a compressed return spring. The clutch shaft is made with external splines for the ease movement of clutch plate through it. Clutch plate is also known as clutch disc. A pilot bearing is placed in the gap between clutch shaft and fly wheel. Also the pressure plate mechanism carries the thrust bearing and clutch fork.

WORKING

The clutch is always in engage condition, when the driver press the clutch pedal the pressure plate moves opposite direction of the forces applied by the pressure spring. It causes to make a gap between clutch plate and fly wheel. So the power from the engine can't be transmit at this time. This condition of clutch is known as clutch disengage.
When the driver releases the clutch pedal, the compressed clutch spring pushes the clutch plate to the flywheel through the pressure plate. So the clutch plate rotate with flywheel. It helps to transmit the power from flywheel to clutch shaft. It called clutch is in engage condition.

CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH

MAIN PARTS 1. Fly wheel 2. Clutch plate 3. Clutch shaft 4. Pressure plate 5. Clutch spring 6. Bell crank lever 7. Centrifugal weight 8. Crank shaft CONSTRUCTION In this type of clutch, centrifugal force is used to keep the clutch in the engaged position. It is operated automatically depending upon the engine speed. It has a fly wheel, clutch shaft, clutch plate, pressure plate, bell crank lever and a centrifugal weight. The bell crank lever is fitted in to the pressure plate with the help of a lever is called bell crank lever. WORKING A simple diagram of a centrifugal clutch is shown in the above figure. When the engine speed increases, the centrifugal weight (A) fly off due to the centrifugal force. At the same time bell crank lever (B) presses the pressure plate(C) and the clutch plate (D) on the flywheel against the springs(G). This makes the clutch engaged. The torsion of spring (G) is designed for disengage the clutch below 500 r.p.m. So the power can't be transmit...

FOUR STROKE DIESEL ENGINE / COMPRESSION IGNITION (CI) ENGINE

FOUR STROKE DIESEL ENGINE Constructional details A four stroke diesel engine consists of a cylinder with its one end fitted with a cover and the other end left open. The cover is provided with the inlet and exhaust valves. These inlet and exhaust valves are opened and closed by mechanically operated cams. The fuel injector is fitted at the top of the cover to atomize the fuel. A piston carrying rings reciprocates inside the cylinder. The piston is connected to the crankshaft through a connecting rod and crank. It converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion. WORKING Suction or intake stroke Suction stroke starts when the piston is at the top dead centre and about to move downwards. At that time, the inlet valve is opened and exhaust valve is closed. Due to the downward movement of the pisto, partial vaccum is created inside the cylinder. (i.e. the volume in the cylinder increases while the Pressure decreases). Due to the pressure difference between the...
