COMPONENTS OF CLUTCH (ക്ലച്ച് ഘടകങ്ങൾ)

COMPONENTS OF A CLUTCH

1. Clutch plate

The main component of the clutch plate is a steel plate with a central hub. Friction liners are provided on both sides. The coil spring receives the torsional vibration of the clutch and prevents it from entering other parts. The clutch faceplates are secured with specially designed cushioned springs to reduce the impact of the clutch while engaged. There is a possibility of torsional vibrations during clutch operation. The clutch plate is made in two parts to eliminate this. It is the central hub assembly and the outer facing ring assembly. Both of these are connected to each other using coil springs in specially made slots.

2. Clutch facing

It should be low wear and high friction and should be able to withstand high temperatures without clutch facings and can be manufactured at low cost. The main materials used to make the clutch face are leather, cork, phobic, asbestos, rabatos and ferro.

3. Pressure plate & clutch fork

The pressure plate is made of high tensile gray iron. It must have good rigidity and firmness. The clutch must be capable of carrying and expelling heat generated when engaged. Behind the pressure plate are the seats for mounting the clutch springs and the legs for attaching the release lever and strut.

The release lever is used to disengage the clutch. Three or four release levers are placed at equal intervals behind the pressure plate

4. Clutch cover

The clutch cover is made of pressed sheet. This is the part that contains the pressure plate assembly. The clutch cover is secured with the help of bolts to the flywheel. The cover also acts as a pivot for the release lever.

5. Clutch spring

The clutch springs provide the force required to hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. The springs are made of oil tempered spring steel wire. The more force exerted on the spring pressure plate, the more effort is required to disengage the clutch.

6. Throw out bearing (Release Bearing)

Throw-out bearings are used to apply the force exerted on the clutch pedal to the rotating clutch release levers. A thrust ball bearing packed with grease is commonly used for throw out bearings.

CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH

MAIN PARTS 1. Fly wheel 2. Clutch plate 3. Clutch shaft 4. Pressure plate 5. Clutch spring 6. Bell crank lever 7. Centrifugal weight 8. Crank shaft CONSTRUCTION In this type of clutch, centrifugal force is used to keep the clutch in the engaged position. It is operated automatically depending upon the engine speed. It has a fly wheel, clutch shaft, clutch plate, pressure plate, bell crank lever and a centrifugal weight. The bell crank lever is fitted in to the pressure plate with the help of a lever is called bell crank lever. WORKING A simple diagram of a centrifugal clutch is shown in the above figure. When the engine speed increases, the centrifugal weight (A) fly off due to the centrifugal force. At the same time bell crank lever (B) presses the pressure plate(C) and the clutch plate (D) on the flywheel against the springs(G). This makes the clutch engaged. The torsion of spring (G) is designed for disengage the clutch below 500 r.p.m. So the power can't be transmit...

FOUR STROKE DIESEL ENGINE / COMPRESSION IGNITION (CI) ENGINE

FOUR STROKE DIESEL ENGINE Constructional details A four stroke diesel engine consists of a cylinder with its one end fitted with a cover and the other end left open. The cover is provided with the inlet and exhaust valves. These inlet and exhaust valves are opened and closed by mechanically operated cams. The fuel injector is fitted at the top of the cover to atomize the fuel. A piston carrying rings reciprocates inside the cylinder. The piston is connected to the crankshaft through a connecting rod and crank. It converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion. WORKING Suction or intake stroke Suction stroke starts when the piston is at the top dead centre and about to move downwards. At that time, the inlet valve is opened and exhaust valve is closed. Due to the downward movement of the pisto, partial vaccum is created inside the cylinder. (i.e. the volume in the cylinder increases while the Pressure decreases). Due to the pressure difference between the...
