MECHANICAL SERVO BRAKE - 22

PROPORTIONING VALAVE - 20

PROPORTIONING VALAVE  Proportioning valve different types of brakes are used on the front and rear of the vehicle (disc, drum) and different braking forces are required on the front and rear due to the weight transfer during braking. Usually due to weight transfer, more braking force is required at the front than at the rear.Applying equal amounts of braking force to the front and rear causes the rear wheels to lock quickly and try to accelerate. The propulsion valve helps to reduce the pressure of the fluid going to the rear brakes.

PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL VALVE-19

In vehicles using the tandem master cylinder, a warning lamp is usually provided on the instrument panel to alert the driver if any part of the brakes fails. Pictured is a switch that operates the warning lamp and a differential valve. If the fluid is pumped out of both chambers when the driver presses the brake pedal, the plunger in the valve rests in the center. This time the warning lamp will be switched off. But when the pressure in any chamber disappears, the plunger in the valve moves to that side. At this time the switch comes on due to the movement of the plunger and the warning lamp illuminates. WHEEL CYLINDER -18

CONSTRUCTION Above is a picture of a wheel cylinder. It will have two spring loaded aluminum pistons and rubber cups. Rubber cups are provided to prevent leakage of hydraulic fluid entering the wheel cylinder. In addition, the spring provided between the pistons are attached to the piston. The slots for connecting the ends of the brake shoe to the piston are provided on the sides of the piston. And  Dust covers are provided on both sides of wheel cylinder to prevent dust and dirt from entering. The wheel cylinder also has a bleeder screw for brake bleeding. WORKING When the driver applies the brakes, the compressed fluid from the master cylinder enters the cylinder through the inlet hole. Then the pistons move along with the rubber cups due to the pressure. This way the brake shoes pull away from the retractor springs and make the brakes possible. When the driver shifts his foot from the brake pedal, the pressure in the line decreases and the pistons move inward due to ...

TANDEM MASTER CYLINDER-17

The reliability of a tandem master cylinder is higher than that of a standard master cylinder. The fluid is pumped through two outlets for two pairs of wheels. Thus a brake on both wheels works efficiently without losing the entire brake if the brakes are lost on any one wheel.   Above is a picture of a tandem master cylinder. Normally when the pedal is pressed (when there are no faults) the brake fluid will reach the same pressure on all four wheels. But if the front wheels fail, the second piston moves freely forward and hits the stopper. But after this the fluid between the first and second pistons is compressed and pumped to operate the rear brakes. Similarly, if the rear wheels fail, the first piston moves freely and hits the second piston. This is followed by a second when the two pistons move forward together The fluid in the front of the piston is compressed and the brakes on the front wheels are applied. In some vehicles the connection in the large compression cham...

HAND / PARKING BRAKE -14

HAND BRAKE / PARKING BRAKE Hand or parking brakes operate independently of standard foot brakes. Such brakes are used on slopes and other parking and other emergency situations. The same brake shoes used for running foot brakes are used for parking brakes. Special shoes are used for parking brakes on some types of vehicles Mechanical type brakes are used as hand brakes. Parking brakes are provided on the rear brakes of most types of vehicles. The handbrake lever is mounted on the side of the driver's seat. Pictured is a parking back system. The lever moves freely from the ratchet when the driver pulls the lever by pressing the button provided on the brake lever. Thus the primary cable operates the brake compensators. As a result of the brake compensators pulling the secondary cables, a special mechanism operated by the parking brakes pushes the brake shoes against the drum. This makes the break possible.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM-15

HYDRAULIC BRAKES Hydraulic brakes operate according to Pascal's law. Pascal's law explains that the pressure exerted on a liquid in a vessel is equal to that on the inner surface of the vessel. Construction  The diagram above shows a hydraulic brake system. The master cylinder is connected to the caliper on the front wheel by steel pipes and to the wheel cylinder on the rear wheel. Flexible hoses are also used in the brake circuit to accommodate the movement of the axle. Working When the driver presses the brake pedal, the master cylinder compresses the fluid and delivers it through pipelines to the rear wheel cylinders and front wheel calipers. The fluid reaching the wheel cylinders pushes the pistons to either side. This movement of the pistons pushes the brake shoes ourwards and activates the rear brakes. When the fluid reaches the front caliper, it moves its piston and friction pad against the disc and activates the front brakes. Most of the vehicles use hydraulic brakes as ...
